Craig Kimbrel blows save as Red Sox fall to first-place Yankees

The Boston Red Sox probably thought they had the red-hot New York Yankees on the ropes several times on Wednesday night, only to lose late. Rodriguez was moved up a day Tuesday when the Red Sox scratched David Price.

"But then Jon and I relived that entire summer, nearly game-by-game-"Reggie Jackson's weird, failed bunt in KC, 'One's convicted, the other's a liar, ' Luis Tiant winning three games in eight days to force the one-game playoff and, of course, the Boston Massacre-and we realized it had to be bigger than one game".

Cora hasn't ruled out Price to pitch Saturday's game at Toronto.

And boy, do the Red Sox wish they had a mulligan. The left-hander was Boston's first-round pick out of high school in 2016.

Though Kimbrel has very limited experience pitching in the eighth inning - he now has pitched in the eighth inning 30 times in his career, compared to pitching in the ninth inning 438 times - the 29-year-old said there's really no excuse for a failure to execute pitches. But it was all downhill after that.

It happened again on Wednesday night and again, for the second-straight night against the Boston Red Sox.

Neither starter in this one was particularly effective. "I lived it previous year during the playoffs (with Houston)".

Sabathia was almost let down by his own bullpen in his last start, but he walked away with a no-decision instead in an eventual 7-6 win.

There was no trouble on the field this time as NY won its 10th consecutive home game, its longest streak since July 2008 at the original Yankee Stadium. Porcello allowed five earned runs in 5.1 innings, and Tanaka was pulled after serving up four runs in 5.1 innings.

Reds 2, Mets 1: Visiting New York wasted a first-inning rally by batting out of turn, and Adam Duvall led off the 10th with a home run to win it for Cincinnati.

Previous summer, a Major League Baseball admirer event was held in London's Hyde Park that watched England global cricketers Joss Butler and Alex Hales join forces players by the Red Sox and also LA Dodgers to get involved in a "home-run derby".

"He came back and he was 2-2 with (Walker)", Cora said.

Whatever Price's reputation was before his tenure in Boston has been replaced by an image of such fragility, and a possible toxicity within the clubhouse.

Torres scored, giving the Yankees the lead for good. But to publicly embarrass and ridicule a pitcher with the pedigree such as Eckersley is something else entirely. "Made some good pitches to get back in the count with Walker".

"We're right there where we need to be", Stanton said after his 31st career multihomer game and third this season. "It was, without exaggeration, the happiest moment of my young life".

Both parties have dug themselves into a hole.

Gardner will be 35 before season's end. You don't see any panic, ever.
