Ready Player One Sequel Update

The legendary director - and the exciting cast he assembled - tell Georgia Humphreys more about the high-tech film.

There's widespread unemployment, the population is beset by poverty and people feel utterly hopeless. The first person to collect the keys are given a dense fortune and ownership of the OASIS. Spielberg is the creator of the modern blockbuster, however, so expectations are understandably high for his latest venture, Ready Player One, based on Ernest Cline's hit novel.

"But when you escape from reality, you're also, in a way, divesting yourself of any real human contact". The story is entertaining with a bit of a social commentary. Did we find all the keys in the maze? "I always call my dad before I do stuff".

Spielberg is having the time of his life making this. He later shares the secret to survival with friends Art3mis (Olivia Cooke) and Aech (Lena Waithe).

Sadly, numerous book's references to Spielberg's cultural artifacts have been stripped away, but he imbibes the movie with flashes of colour and heart that rekindle a sense of wonderment that will transport many viewers back to their childhoods. Never far behind is the evil Nolan Sorrento (Ben Mendelsohn), who wants control of the OASIS for financial gain. I'd come to work into work and Olivia [Cooke] would be, "Okay, what do we do now?" He was like the billions on a damaged Earth: Looking for an escape, which he, like many others found in the OASIS; a massive virtual reality game and the brainchild of James Halliday. Trust me when I say, it shows.

Mendelsohn calls himself and Spielberg "OG's - original gamers", sharing they've played arcade space shooter Asteroids together.

A treasure trove of pop culture references, film buffs, video game nerds, and music fanatics will all find something they recognize and love in this film, whether it is in the soundtrack, dialogue, or scattered throughout the world itself.

"Ready Player One" initially offers relatively wholesome escapist fun as the teens careen around the Oasis, which resembles the Las Vegas Strip on steroids.

Which is why Ready Player One isn't just a great movie for gamers or those who grew up in the '80s, but a wildly entertaining film for the masses by a septuagenarian filmmaker who still wants to have fun. As for the various references, this was made to be revisited on Blu-Ray and freeze framed. In the virtual world he is known as "Parzival", or "Z" for brevity sake.

He added in an interview with The Associated Press: "This was a film that for me fulfilled all of my fantasies of the places I go in my imagination when I get out of town".

"Half of the film is virtual, so it's performance capture, half of it's live action... and it's extraordinary", Simon gushed. "But I think it really belongs in a museum so everybody can see it". "Welles directed all the insert photography and Welles was happy with the second sled they burned, and so the third sled was not needed, and that was put in storage at RKO (studio), and I purchased the sled at a Sotheby's auction in the mid-80s". "That's one of the reasons that I'm drawn to write more stories in this world".

"Ready Player One" is rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action violence, bloody images, some suggestive material, partial nudity and language; running time: 140 minutes.
