The softball team has worked hard all winter long and is ready for the regular season to begin. They're always in the state tournament.

LASELL 17, ST. JOSEPH'S 5: Alex McCormack-Kuhman of Wells scored three of his four goals in the first half as the Lasers (1-4, 1-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference) opened a 9-1 lead in a win over the Monks (4-5, 0-1) at Auburndale, Massachusetts.

After an 8-3 road win versus Reynolds last Thursday, the girls through their first five games of the 2018 season are undefeated and now rank fourth in the state in 5A Oregon School Activities Association rankings.

Three of UWEC's six losses in Florida were by two or fewer runs. Reagan Hurst finished 1-1 with two runs. Kerrville Tivy crossed home again in the top of the fifth and, ultimately, grabbed the lead in the sixth inning after scoring two more runs. They added one in the top of the seventh when Sanders led off with a double, stole second and scored on a passed ball. Seguin struggled to answer throughout the Antlers late surge, causing the Mats to lose 5-3. She gave up three hits in the first, but did not allow a single one for the remainder of the contest.

Lexey Brenneman collected a one-out, two-run double to give Weir a 3-0 advantage. Evansville won both games by a final of 6-2.

Seward came away with 14 hits in the game, led by Kaitlin Amermann's three hits. "Jasmine Lewis had two hits and so did Chloe Taylor". Sophomores Eva Scott (Burleson, Texas, Centennial High School) and Mackenzie Johnson of Nanih Waiya singled in runs, and sophomore Ali Gartman of Loyd Star doubled in a run, while two more runs scored on an error by the leftfielder on Gartman's hit. The Wildcats scored a run in the 1, three in the 2, one in the 5 and four in the 6. The single, nine-inning game starts at 3 p.m.

In the bottom of the inning, UE was able to plate two runs.

Reagan Hurst had the big bat of the game as she went 2-2 with a double and a run scored.

The fifth and sixth inning pulled the Cougars into striking distance.

Graves has a 1.55 ERA, but a 4-7 record with the lack of run production in Butler's lineup.

Freshman Olivia Stuck pitched the first six innings for Wawasee and gave up six hits and four runs. In two scoreless relief innings, Evans Hendricks recorded two strikeouts in the pitcher's circle.

Hayes went 3 for 6 with five RBIs. So this week, when the first two games of Delta League play were called off as well, there might have been some worry about the team being a little rusty.

"We're trying to solidify that 2-3-4 spot [in the batting order]", Karwoski said. Karly (Gray) also had a nice hit and we had Kelsey's home run. What looked like a routine ground ball and force out at second base, however, didn't go as planned for the Lady Warriors, who dropped the throw to second that would have ended the game, instead allowing West Noble's Jaden Hanna to score the game-winning run. Lawrence allowed two hits, struck out one and walked none. Kamehameha Maui will play Lahainaluna at 3:30 p.m., while the Baldwin-King Kekaulike game is slated for 5:30, both at Maehara Stadium.
