'A Wrinkle In Time' Proves That Love Wins - But What About Physics?

Director Ava DuVernay took on the project for Disney when the studio finally pushed production in 2016. This, along with its star-studded cast and messages of diversity, have surrounded the film with considerable hype.

That's because Lee recently admitted to me over the phone that the duo initially bonded over stories about their bullies, which ultimately led to the character of Veronica Kiley (Rowan Blanchard), who routinely harasses Meg Murry (Storm Reid) in "A Wrinkle In Time", being created. It's on these various planets that Meg learns things about herself, things that empower her bit by bit. She previously directed smaller films like "Selma", "Middle of Nowhere" and "I Will Follow". In one scene, Mrs. Whatsit says to the children the planet they're on is her favorite. A Wrinkle in Time has a fine set-up, but as soon as we enter this other world the whole thing goes to hell. I worked out with my mom a lot, she knew I would have to get my endurance up physically.

She explained the significance of this verse: "In the Bible, it's said that if you have faith as small as a grain of mustard seed, God will move mountains". And the strength she had to have to do that, from the moment I read that book I kept it with me and my daughter was reading it when I started writing this and we had endless conversations about this. She quotes Shakespeare, Gandhi and other notable figures throughout the film. While he'd be at the top of my list for a new Children of the Corn or Pet Cemetery film, his youthful lack of enunciation made him challenging to understand only adding to my frustration.

And throughout this fantasy book, "A Wrinkle in Time" provides timeless examples of how empathy and vulnerability can help boys and girls forge the kind of friendships that make each party stronger than they would be on their own. And I never thought of that.

A Wrinkle in Time is rated PG.

"Miss Oprah told me those people are not right", Reid says.

And, most importantly, Meg is clearly the hero of the movie.

Based on the 1962 novel by Madeleine L'Engle, Ava DuVernay's ambitious but flawed adaptation raises the question of whether any version of the book could have worked. She walks the walk that she talks. She blossoms not only through her actions but also through her dialogue. As she learned this, she opened her mind to realize that nothing was her fault and that life will get better for her.

You can see the effort, and maybe that's its problem. A Wrinkle in Time is a rare film for children that doesn't shy away from the hard realities of life but also shows a way forward to a better world. I couldn't tell you now what it was about even if I tried. But I know whatever's meant for me will be, and I'm just going with the flow. "And people want to be seen".

"I think there's part of you in your filmmaking, and I do love ending on the hope instead of the dystopia".

It's a very competitive weekend, and A Wrinkle in Time, like Black Panther, has been sold on its multiculturalism in its ensemble cast.
