Runnin' Utes Taking on OR in Second Round of Pac-12 Tournament

The Oregon Ducks (21-11) are riding in a two game winning streak including a 64-62 win over Washington State in the opening of the tournament.

The Ducks, meanwhile, needed a furious rally and some last-minute heroics from MiKyle McIntosh and Kenny Wooten to top No. 3 seed Utah, 68-66. "And I think they know that they're good enough to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament".

"I thought, if we could have gotten that thing within striking distance, I probably would have gone with him, but I certainly didn't want to risk him or his ankle for the sake of just putting him back in the game". It also came down to Colorado hitting 61-percent of their three pointers. Those percentages were excellent.

Colorado looked like it had a shot at hanging with the Wildcats until Wright's injury. "Sometimes it goes in, sometimes it doesn't". If we have to go overtime again, that might be a problem, but it's not going to be a problem Thursday. Later, Tra Holder hit a jumper to give the Sun Devils a 60-56 advantage with 12:06 to play.

Colorado, by no surprise, played a 2-3 zone during Wednesday's matchup.

When the Wildcats loss to the Buffaloes it was because their shooting was bad.

Holder and Evans had 14 points on the afternoon.

"Tough one for us obviously", coach Wayne Tinkle said. "They went on that run, and it was kind of all she wrote".

Since Rhode Island has lost two consecutive games, and three of its last five, then they can badly us a couple of wins this week heading into the NCAA tournament.

If there was a positive sign for ASU, it was freshman guard Remy Martin.

Washington fell to 20-12. Justice finished with 14 points. On the season, Colorado is averaging 71.4 ppg on 43.8% shooting from the field. ASU shot 47.6 percent (30-for-63), including 13-for-32 from beyond the arc.

The Buffalos controlled every important facet of the game. ASU was out-rebounded 39-26. They even brought in legendary public address announcer Michael Buffer to introduce the starting lineups for a game.

Led by talented freshman point guard McKinley Wright IV, the Buffaloes (17-14) shot their way past Arizona State and put a dent in the Sun Devils' NCAA Tournament chances. The Wildcats have a rebound margin of 7.1 and a turnover margin of -0.8.

Last year's Pac-12 tournament runners-up, the Oregon Ducks, are taking the court in the first round against the Washington State Cougars. Shooting 47 percent from three-point range on the season, Adams is capable of going for monster outings - as evidenced by his back-to-back 40-point games during conference play.

They continued with the hot hand in the second half.

OR took its first step in the first round on Wednesday, overcoming a 17-point first half to beat Washington State 64-62 in overtime. The Rams won 16 straight games during the middle of the regular season as it looked like they might run away with an unbeaten conference regular season.

That was not the case against Colorado Wednesday.

McIntosh bulled inside for a basket with 59 seconds to go that gave OR its first lead.

"Rotations and second efforts", Martin said about his team's defensive breakdowns.

OR kept itself in an ugly game with its defense, finding a way to win and keep its slim NCAA Tournament hopes alive. But despite a second-place finish, it remains on the bubble for earning a third consecutive berth to the NCAA Tournament, according to most projections.

"Utah is good, but I feel like we can beat any team in the tournament", he said. The Bruins won by 16 at Westwood in the teams' last meeting. "When he's playing with confidence, it gives us confidence and belief in our basketball team".
