Women Carried the Olympics This Year

Mike Tirico - NBC's primetime host throughout the PyeongChang Games - hosted the Closing Ceremony for Rio in 2016 alongside Ryan Seacrest and Mary Carillo.

After two weeks of Olympic action, the medal race is winding down. Lim earlier won the 1,500, making him the only man to win multiple individual short-track medals at the games.

Tennell, a soft-spoken 20-year-old in her first full senior global season after back injuries, said she wasn't sure what the reasonable expectations should have been for these USA women. Her speed going into jumps is unparalleled.

It was, the Canadian figure skater said, the best she could have done.

What must she do to rival the world's best in four years?

"It's the Olympic spirit, the opportunity to experience other cultures, and it's just a great time", one fan said."We're just happy to be here".

Also of note is the overlap between All-Star viewers and the games - or better said, the lack of overlap: less than half of the people who watched the All-Star game also watched the Olympics (either in other time slots or by timeshifting). They are headed for retirement for the second time and promise it will stick. Reflected as a percentage of medals won - the number available has steadily grown with the addition of more action sports, among others, to the program - the USA took 14.3 percent in 2010, 9.6 percent in 2014 and will be at 7.5 percent this year if it closes with 23.

It's nearly time to close the book on the Winter Olympics. The women once again advanced to the gold medal game this year and were faced with their familiar foe.

It was a good week for the Americans in PyeongChang, South Korea, as they added nine more Olympic medals since the Lariat's last update.

Then, just three days later during the finals of big air, a brand new Winter Olympic event in 2018, she landed a frontside 1080-degree trick, one of the sport's toughest maneuvers, which nabbed her a total of 177.25 points for a second place finish behind Austrian Anna Gasser. Not to mention he also became the youngest Olympian of all time to medal in snowboarding. Typically, places like Germany and Scandinavia - where many "white sports" players find their roots - dominate the competition.

But that attitude fails to summon proper Olympic pride for the true heroes of the Games: the US women. On account of both teams remained for 13 gold medals.

Skate Canada's high performance director Mike Slipchuk said the team's medal target for Pyeongchang was three. The badass duo made history as the first American women to ever win a medal-let alone a gold medal-in cross-country skiing.

But for now, viewers still have 24 hours to get their final sporting fix before the closing ceremony on Sunday, which is sure to be an incredible spectacle to mark the end of the Pyeongchang games. They all travel to events year round, including the Olympics, on their own dime.
