Tiger Woods positive after first-round 70 at Honda Classic

- William McGirt will look to get his eighth PGA Tour season back on track at this week's Honda Classic.

Harman went low again with a closing 64 in 2015 for T11 and he was also T11 at halfway a year ago before fading on the weekend.

Coverage of the Honda Classic will be televised on the Golf Channel (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday) and CBS (Saturday, Sunday).

The former world number one started the year with two top-three finishes on the European Tour, but has struggled to replicate that form in two events on the PGA Tour, missing the cut at Pebble Beach and then finishing in a tie for 20th place at last week's Genesis Open.

Woods lives only 15 miles from PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, so it always made sense that he would play his hometown event if his body was up to the challenge.

"I missed the rush of competing for a green jacket", he said.

Noren also faltered at the long 18th - his ninth - when he dumped a wedge into sand and could not get up and down, but that proved his only blemish of the round as he found his rhythm on the front nine.

Asked whether he was in "catch-up mode" as it related to preparing for the Masters, which he has not played since 2015, Woods said, "I don't feel like I am". Look out for possible back-to-back Honda titles for Rickie. "The first time I played with him in a tournament was '09 at BMW at Chicago, and he won by nine and the first couple holes were really nerve-wracking".

Noren, a nine-times European Tour victor, birdied his final hole to take the club house lead, before he was joined by Simpson, who also carded five birdies and a bogey in his 66.

Officials still do their best to enforce a hush when players are putting or teeing off.

Rory McIlroy believes he is close to a first win since September 2016 ahead of this week's Honda Classic, an event which has been either "feast or famine" for the four-time major victor.

The 31-year-old from Alabama, who is the image of southern comfort with his polite demeanor, is the latest to experience the hype surrounding Woods in his return from a fourth back surgery.

It's been a long time between drinks but all three of his PGA Tour wins have come over on his native East Coast and that includes the 2011 U.S. Open which he won with 4-under.

He answered with a birdie, made par the rest of the way and shot 70.

Brian Harman: Harman skipped the Genesis Open last week following his MC at Torrey Pines, but with four top 10s in his last six starts we reckon he's one to watch this week.

"I'm starting to get that feeling again of playing tournament golf, where you know each and every shot counts", Woods said Wednesday after his pro-am round. At +5000, it's hard to be a bad bet. I had to work the golf ball both ways, and occasionally downwind, straight up in the air.
