Seven of his eight wins last season came at a 1.5-mile track, including the final race of the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway where he captured his first Cup championship.

Another driver to watch today is Darrell Wallace Jr., the first black driver to race Daytona since 1969.

Patrick was collected in a crash that involved Chase Elliott, Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne, Brad Keselowski and others on Lap 102 of the race scheduled for 200 laps at Daytona International Speedway.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds soared in an aerial show in one of the most exciting prerace moments.

Patrick never truly lived up to the unrealistic expectations that followed her throughout her NASCAR career.

"They're great entertainers. We've seen them in concert before", she said.

Keselowski said that Elliott simply got loose.

Patrick said she was pleased that her Premium Motorsports auto seemed competitive. Ryan Blaney led a race-high 118 laps and wrecked Kurt Busch, last year's victor, trying to win the race.

In 2015, at age 63, he became the oldest driver to win the pole position for any Daytona race - a 300-mile race sanctioned by the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA). "I didn't really expect to get by him".
