Alphabet Inc's (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google and Amazon.com, Inc. Google's attendance at CES shows just how seriously it's taking digital assistance.

Voice assistants are poised to take over our homes. Aibo will be available in Japan for about $2,000 US but so far the company hasn't said if they are bringing Aibo back to the states. The assistant's shadow looms large and wide over a lot of categories from PC's, automobiles and even toilet seats.

Manufacturers of appliances and other products are considering factors such as ease of use and language support as they pick voice technology from what they view as a wide open battle between Alphabet Inc's Google, Amazon.com Inc and others. But the Amazon Echo has a 68% share in the rapidly growing smart speaker market. But where are all of the non-PC Cortana devices? Samsung's Bixby is still looking for takers and all the third party assistants are way behind the pack to matter. Outside of United States and Europe, Amazon's reach starts to dwindle. Since all of these hubs are using Google Assistant, they will need to work hard to stand out.

"We'll have to see how that works out", Google's Scott Huffman, a Google VP, said.

One of the ranges that surprised us as to how much we actually wanted it was the connected range from American luxury bathroom brand Kohler called Kohler Konnect.

The biggest distinction between Google and Amazon is that the former isn't producing its own smart display hardware yet, instead partnering with other vendors to offer 8- or 10-inch screens. This could reduce usage of Google's core services.
