On Monday's Smart Talk, we discuss the legacy of Dr. King in central state communities with Dr. Nathaniel Gadsden, a Harrisburg native and Senior Pastor of Imani African Christian Church.

The 2018 MLK Youth Scholarship Awards will be presented at the MLK Youth Scholarship Awards Program at the Austin Community College's Eastview Campus, 3401 Webberville Rd., Building 8000 in the Multipurpose Room, from 3 p.m.to 5 p.m.

The atrium of the Free Public Library on Saturday echoed with the words of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

January 15th is the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, but unlike other holidays that we observe, the MLK holiday should be one of service.

"I believe that racial injustice has gone on long enough, and that we as a community should stop letting time take its toll and make a difference", read ninth grader Jenna Seymour from her winning entry.

As part of the celebration, students will provide testimonials of what service learning means to them, as well as perform songs and literary works to mark the occasion.

Wane came to the United States as a child when his mother was hired by the United Nations Development Program. It has been a USA federal holiday since 1986. Day, I want to encourage people to take a moment to reflect upon and recognize the contributions and philosophy of Dr. King - a man who peacefully stood for equality - rejecting bigotry and segregation.

The event drew city officials, residents, teens and volunteers. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said that "the president's expressed desire to see more immigrants from countries like Norway must be called out for what it is: an effort to set this country back generations by promoting a homogeneous, white society".

King's nephew, Isaac Newton Farris Jr., also spoke at the event about his uncle's legacy.

PLEASANTVILLE - Law enforcement, community leaders and advocates will join together next wee... Boulevard in Columbus, placing it between Brewer Elementary school and 10th Ave.

Anthony Gonzalez, B-Lilly and the Soul Brothers and Lawrence organist Kathrine Handford will perform at the event.

"I think he [Martin Luther King Jr.] made a really big impact on the community and had a way of making everyone equal in the community", said Demos.

Where: Lawrence Memorial Chapel, 510.

Featuring: Keynote speaker is Aly Wane, an undocumented organizer living in Syracuse, New York. The theme for the breakfast was "The Other America" after Dr. King's speech delivered in 1967 at Stanford University.
