Alabama overcomes 'rat poison' in victory over Texas A&M

"I'm trying to get our players to listen to me instead of you guys", Saban said in comments directed to reporters gathered in the postgame news conference.

Alabama had not committed a turnover all season until Texas A&M defensive back Debione Renfro jarred the ball loose from the grip of Crimson Tide wide receiver Robert Foster midway through the third quarter.

All week long, Nick Saban told everyone the game against the Aggies would not be easy. We want to prove that we can be a fourth quarter team, and play in a tough game in a tough environment, but we couldn't...

"They're going to hear from everybody walking around that this is a different week when the reality is it's not", Sumlin said. "It's like poison. Like rat poison".

When/where: 6:15 p.m. Saturday; College Station. Kyle Field is also one of the louder and tougher places to play in the country, and the Aggies have had a lot of success there over the recent years. Saban was very disappointed that Alabama football led 24-3 with 11 minutes to go in the third quarter but failed to put the game away.

History aside, it is easy to understand why this current Alabama Crimson Tide unit is the best team in the nation through the first month of the season. Saban was not happy in the fourth quarter, even at the end. Jalen Hurts hasn't been the same difference-maker that he was a year ago, but he hasn't had to be with guys like Minkah Fitzpatrick and Da'Shawn Hand on defense.

Minkah should have gone down. He wasn't able to finish this game with a knee injury, by the way.

"They're really gelling", tight end Hale Hentges said. Alabama finally had a game on its hands. That's not how good teams play.

My goodness. Nick Saban's dad does not mess around. "I think when things like this happen, it's all about people".

Saban will work on that response vigorously.

Now, let's take a look at three takeaways from Texas A&M's loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 6. Early indications from Las Vegas also has Alabama predicted as five touchdown favorites over Tennessee and almost four touchdown favorites over LSU. "Whenever you get back around family and enjoy time with family, and are around the football team ..." The game wasn't necessarily as close as the final score would indicate, as A&M's final TD came with 17 seconds left. It's not clear that the Tide will face any such team until late November at the earliest.

While the Aggie offense was starting to heat up, the Alabama offense went frigid with help from an Aggie defense that held them to 4 yards a play and 1.7 yards a rush in the second half. Their passing game was a bit erratic, and the offensive line looked sluggish at times.

It would've been impossible for Alabama to continue playing at the otherworldly level it put on display the previous two weeks.

When Harvey hit, Saban revealed that the school was able to assist the father of defensive back Tony Brown, who is from Beaumont, Texas.
