NLDS Game 1, Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers: Highlights, recap and more

Ray was supposed to start this series opener, but was pressed into relief against the Rockies when ace Zack Greinke faltered - and Walker couldn't come through in his place.

Walker said he typically leaves tickets for his wife, mother, sister and brothers when he pitches at Dodger Stadium.

The Diamondbacks have some of the best home run hitters in all of baseball.

Given the heightened moment and well-documented emotion experienced by each player, Walker's task was challenging. That wouldn't be the case Friday, mostly because giving three-time Cy Young victor Clayton Kershaw that kind of cushion isn't the recipe for success. He gave up a big 3-run homer to Justin Turner (3-4, HR, 5 RBIs) after putting the first two runners Chris Taylor (1-4, 2 R) and Cody Bellinger (1-5, 1 R) on base.

Instead of a collapse or falling behind by some insurmountable lead, the Dodgers took control with a four-run bottom of the first inning.

LOS ANGELES - Baseball's postseason is a time of resetting in that everyone begins at 0-0.

Back in 2011, the Diamondbacks lost to the Milwaukee Brewers in the best of five matchup of the National League Divisional Series.

ONE LEG UP: The Diamondbacks were one of just two teams to win their season series with mighty Los Angeles, going 11-8 - including wins in the final six meetings during the Dodgers' late-season slump.

But thanks to the early offense against Walker, Kershaw picked up the win, allowing only one other hit to Arizona: a single.

Dodgers' Bats: The game would have been a lot closer if the Diamondbacks had been able to get runners on base to go with their four solo home runs. One could think of this fact in two different ways.

"No regrets whatsoever", he said. "He was the choice - the clear-cut choice". We held him back off the Wild Card roster for the potential of this happening. He just never got in a rhythm. In a year when teams collectively scored more runs than in any year since 2008, the Dodgers gave up the fewest runs as a franchise since 2003. You can't go out there and let the adrenaline really get to you. "Made the decision to take him out after the first inning". Three of the first four batters swung at the first pitch Kershaw threw.

We'll have up-to-the-minute scoring and stats here throughout the game. We feel good about the way we approached Kershaw. "It's one game. It was a tough day for us".

When Robbie Ray appeared out of the bullpen in the National League wild-card game on Wednesday, it was clear Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo was pulling out all the stops. He was 3-0 in five starts against the Dodgers this season, posting a 2.27 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings.
