Doug Martin impresses in first game

The New England Patriots won a close game 19 -14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. - With Rob Gronkowski inactive, that left just Dwayne Allen and rookie Jacob Hollister as the active tight ends for the Patriots. That ugly performance came on the heels of missing two field goals and an extra point last week.

After weathering inconsistency last season from kicker Roberto Aguayo, a second-round draft pick in 2016, the Bucs acquired Folk, an 11-year veteran, and opened the competition during training camp.

Head coach Dirk Koetter didn't tell reporters postgame that Folk would be cut. You've got to execute. If I'm a defense, I'm gonna hit Tom every chance I get.

Do YOU want to write for GiveMeSport? "20-19. This one's on me", the 32-year-old admitted.

This game is more of a can't-loss and a win keeps the Bills at least a game ahead of the Patriots come Week 6.

But one week after throwing for 332 yards and three touchdowns without an interception and overcoming a pair of fourth-quarter deficits to beat the Giants, Winston was unable to move the ball consistently until the fourth quarter. He finished 26-of-46 passing for 334 yards, one touchdown and no INTs.

But the Bucs did some nice things on defense. It raised the number of total sacks allowed by the Patriots through five games to 16 - one more than Brady took in 12 games past year. There's things that we have to do different.

Winston? He was continually off his mark, often overthrowing receivers until padding stats on the last two drives of desperation.

Folk admitted after the loss that he deserves some blame for the defeat, telling reporters, per the Tampa Bay Times' Greg Auman, "We left points out there. If 10 guys do their job and one doesn't, that's how you give up big plays and touchdowns". It felt good. That was another highlight of my night. Well, probably a little bit of both. There's some that were obvious drops. It's just unfortunate that we couldn't give it to him more. It's a continual progression. I think we're all happy that Doug is back. The Bucs have made 9 similar plays for an average of three per game while the Patriots average 7.

"Now, plays and yards don't score points", Koetter said.

How do you gauge just how much improvement we saw Thursday night when the Buccaneers were all to eager to help their opponents?

The NFL's Thursday night game for Week 5 of the 2017 season had an all-Alabama ending. I can finally say that games really start to become meaningful. After this game, players were feeling better about how they were synced up in the secondary. Offense isn't always going to have a great day; defense isn't always going to have a great day.

As the numbers show, the Patriots played the majority of the game in the three- and four-receiver set, which is a direct result of being without Gronkowski. "That obviously starts with me".

Whilst heavily relying on QB Tom Brady and the offence, the defence is really struggling and now considered one of the worst in the NFL. For the second week in a row he passed for more than 300 yards with no turnovers.
