National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police and community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer. Police departments across the metro area will be out in full force Tuesday, but not in the traditional sense.

The event will coincide with the police department's kickoff of a bicycle registration program.

Tiffany Shellenberg, who lives in the neighborhood, said the event helps to raise awareness for everyone in the community, teaching them that police officers are not bad people.

A mounted Geauga County deputy and her horse get plenty of attention during Chardon's National Night Out event, which included participants fro a number of Geauga and Lake County public safety agencies.

"Anytime that we can get the community together with each other and with us and just have a conversation about things going on in the neighborhoods and community that might concern them, might concern us", Hoskins said.

The very first National Night Out was back in 1984 and involved 2.5 million neighbors across 23 states.

Bonner Springs police officers, EMS and sheriff's office will be in attendance.

Food trucks, music and many other activities were available for the whole family.

Additional National Night Out events were held in the Solar Hill and Monarch Place in Bristol, Virginia. We don't expect the community to do it all alone, and we can't expect the police department to do it all alone.

Meeting with people at Mount Olive Church, Schmaderer said it's easy to see the foundation many of his officers have worked to build and the community's ability to maintain trust.

While speaking with police officers in Suffolk County, New York, President Trump suggested that officers should be rougher with suspects they detain.

Bristol, Tennessee, now has no neighborhood watch groups, but Brown said there are efforts to fight crime in the city.
